Week ahead: UK CPI and employment data, ECB in focus

(Sharecast News) - Investors' focus over the coming holiday-shortened trading week will, inevitably, continue to be on the headlines around the ongoing trade and geopolitical tensions globally.

Against that backdrop, Tuesday and Wednesday will see the release of the latest monthly UK employment and inflation data, respectively.

They will arrive alongside readings for Chinese foreign trade and economic activity more generally, on Monday and Wednesday.

Wednesday's session will also see the release of US retail sales figures for March and a policy announcement out of Bank of Canada.

Capping it all off, on Thursday it will be the European Central Bank's turn to decide on policy.

Consensus is that policymakers in Frankfurt will opt for a further 25 basis point reduction in interest rates, taking that on the deposit facility to 2.25%.
