Week ahead: All eyes on Sainsbury and Sage

Next week looks set to be somewhat quieter than the one just gone, partly because of the Bank Holiday on the Monday and partly because of less market-moving economic events that we have seen as of late, such as the rate cut in Europe and the all-important US jobs report.Nevertheless, a handful of big-name stocks are expected to report results, including Sainsbury and Sage, both due on Wednesday.Results from supermarket giant Sainsbury are expected to show another solid increase in profits with consensus estimates for a profit before tax (PBT) of £746m in the year ended March 31st, compared with an underlying figure of £712m the year before.UBS, which is above consensus with a £749m estimate, said ahead of the announcement that this "represents a good outturn given industry demand conditions have remained depressed while key competitors have experienced profitability declines in the equivalent period".
