(Sharecast News) - The cost of living in the States is expected to have slipped again last month, but investors are keen to know by just how much.

At 1230 BST, the Department of Labor is expected to announce that the annual rate of increase in consumer prices had ticked lower by a tenth of a percentage point in July to reach 2.9%.

Core CPI gains meanwhile were seen ebbing from 3.3% to 3.2%.

Earlier, at 0600 BST, the Office for National Statistics is expected to announce that the opposite occurred in the UK, even if from a lower base, with CPI picking up to 2.3% year-on-year after having fallen to 2.0% during the previous month.

In the euro area meanwhile, at 0900 BST Eurostat will release readings for second quarter employment and gross domestic product growth.

Overnight, rate-setters in New Zealand are expected to announce a decision to keep official short-term interest rates on hold at 5.5%.
