(Sharecast News) - Tesla is to issue a software update to nearly 1.7m cars in China to fix an issue with the bonnet latch that affected a similar number of vehicles in the US last month.
China's State Administration for Market Regulation announced on Tuesday that the American electric car maker would 'recall' the affected models and issue over-the-air updates to fix the bug.
According to the recall notice, the vehicles in question may fail to detect and alert drivers when the bonnet is unlatched, increasing the risk of an accident while driving.
The affected cars are imported S and X models and 3 and Y models made in China over the past four years.
In late-July, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration asked Tesla to recall 1.85m in the US over the same issue.
Tesla futures were rising 1% in pre-market trade on Wednesday, rebounding after a 12% plunge over the past five sessions.
