Transport and logistics company Stobart Group has switched to DB Schenker Rail (UK) as its main provider of rail freight services in the UK.The contract was previous held by Direct Rail Services (DRS). Stobart Group’s chief executive officer Andrew Tinkler said the switch to DB Schenker was not a reflection on the performance of DRS and was ‘simply due to the rapid expansion of the business and move into Europe following the recent collaboration with DB Schenker Rail (UK) Ltd.’Stobart and DB Schenker are already collaborating on temperature controlled transport services in Spain. The new arrangement will see electric locomotives being used for the first time on Stobart's service from the Midlands to Scotland, delivering an annual carbon saving of 7,500 tonnes on Stobart's existing traffic.
