Accountancy software provider Sage has named Guy Berruyer, currently head of its mainland Europe & Asia operations, as the man to take over from chief executive Paul Walker. The 59-year-old Frenchman has spent 13 years at the firm, joining to run its operations in France in 1997. He made it to the board in January 2000."Guy has lead the successful growth of our business in Europe and, more recently, in Asia. He has a strong track record of profit growth, both organically and through the successful acquisition and integration of companies," said chairman Anthony Hobson. The news will surprise many who thought either finance director Paul Harrison, or head of the group's UK and Ireland business, Paul Stobart, would get the job.Walker announced his intention to step down in April following 16 years at the helm in a 26-year career at Sage.Berruyer will take up the role on 1 October, with Walker finally leaving the business two months later.
