The London-listed firm said Collins, an experienced executive and board chair in the financial services sector, would also chair the nominations committee and join the remuneration committee.
It said his career spanned fund management and leadership roles in listed companies, with a 25-year tenure at Gartmore contributing significantly to building one of the UK's leading institutional and retail fund management businesses.
Collins also co-founded and led successful financial services ventures including Trustnet, and held senior positions at Jupiter, Bestinvest, and Lazard Investors.

"Adrian is hugely experienced, with a track record of growing businesses and creating value.
"The board has had some fantastic conversations with Adrian, and we are excited to work with him."
Collins previous role as executive and non-executive chair of Liontrust Asset Management saw strong growth, with assets under management increasing tenfold during his tenure.
Currently, he held board positions as the chair of Logistics Development Group and as a non-executive director of Hargreaves Lansdown, and he previously chaired Bahamas Petroleum Company.
Darrell Evans, the interim chair of the board and nominations committee, would step down from those roles and resume his position as an independent non-executive director.
Evans would oversee workforce engagement and chair the remuneration committee while rejoining the audit and risk committee.
Gaby Appleton, who had held the roles of workforce engagement non-executive director and chair of the remuneration committee since 5 March, would continue as an independent non-executive director and member of the audit and risk, remuneration, and nomination committees.
"I'm very pleased to take on the role of chair of LSL," said Adrian Collins.
"I have been struck by the enthusiasm and commitment of the whole board, and I look forward to helping them drive the business forward to create value for our shareholders."
