FTSE 250 movers: Inmarsat rises on first quarter earnings

Miner Petra Diamonds was up having reported a doubling of production in its third quarter, driven by its purchase of the Finsch mine in South Africa. The firm said production rocketed 126 per cent to 622,509 carats during the period, with Finsch exceeding management expectations and contributing 343,051 carats. Shares in satellite communications firm Inmarsat were up after first quarter earning rose slightly on strong demand at its maritime unit. For the three months ended March 31st 2012 total EBITDA rose one per cent to $205m while total revenue increased six per cent to $237m. Maritime revenue was up 7.2% at $95.4m. Also on the rise was airline easyJet after repoting that its interim losses were lower than expected, helped by a increased revenues and tight control of costs. Loss before tax for the six months to the end of March narrowed year-on-year from £153m to £112m, while revenues rose 15.7% from £1,266m to £1,465m. Shares rose early on. Meanwhile, Egyptian gold miner Centamin fell after it revealed a significant drop in production in the first quarter after strike action hit its main Sukari operation, but shares rose after the firm still maintained its full-year output guidance.
