FTSE 250 movers: C&W Comms jumps after first half results

Telecoms group Cable & Wireless Communications soared higher on Thursday after reporting a 24% rise in half-year revenue and signs of "stablisation" in the all-important Caribbean division.Waste management firm Shanks jumped as it delivered a 20% increase in underlying half-year profit, upped its dividend 10% and named Peter Dilnot as chief executive.Invensys jumped higher after being awarded a £170m contract to supply signalling technology for a new commuter line that is to run under the Bosphorus.Communications technology firm Spirent wasn't too far behind after seeing profits increase by 7% to $31.1m in the three months to the start of November.Housebuilder Redrow was in demand after saying it made steady progress in the first 17 weeks of the current financial year with the value of like for like private home reservations up 14% on the same period last year.Pubs group JD Wetherspoon edged higher after serving up a 1.1% increase in first quarter like-for-like sales as consumers continue to tighten their purse strings.Gold miner African Barrick Gold was on the up after it announced a deal allowing another firm to explore for iron ore at its sites in Tanzania.Three days after downgrading Homeserve's rating from hold to sell, Peel Hunt has slashed its target price for the emergency repair services firm from 450p to 280p, saying that an "FSA investigation looms".
