(Sharecast News) - London's FTSE 100 was down 2.3% at 7,985.98 in afternoon trade on Monday, suffering its worst session in more than a year.
Amid a wide-scale selloff, defensives managed some gains, with Reckitt Benckiser and Haleon both in the black. Meanwhile, Diageo and GSK suffered only small losses.
Richard Hunter, head of markets at Interactive Investor, called the moves in defensives "half-hearted".
Elsewhere, Scottish Mortgage Investment Trust and Pershing Square - which are particularly exposed to the US - were both under the cosh.
