(Sharecast News) - Cabin crew at low-cost airline easyJet are to receive a 20% increase in their basic pay, it was announced on Wednesday, after negotiations with the Unite union.
The union said the 18-month deal, reached after extensive discussions, included the substantial pay rise and also entailed an additional 3% on variable pay for easyJet crew members.
Unite said that cabin crew salaries fluctuate based on routes and base locations, with compensation directly tied to the flights undertaken, meaning longer journeys translate into higher earnings for cabin crew.
It said that alongside the permanent pay raise, cabin managers - both current and probationary - would receive a one-time payment of £2,000, while cabin crew flight attendants could expect £1,500.
"Unite is steadfast in its mission to secure better pay, jobs and conditions and It it is excellent that our hard working members at easyJet receive a historic pay increase due to Unite," said the union's general secretary, Sharon Graham.
Beyond the salary enhancements, Unite said it also successfully advocated for policy revisions at easyJet.
The airline would now provide a £15 compensation to all cabin crew members onboard in the event of a service disruption lasting over an hour, doubling to £30 if the delay surpassed the 120-minute mark.
"Through the union's collective strength and solid negotiations, we have achieved a significant pay increase for our members," said Unite regional officer Lindsey Olliver.
"Cabin crew are an integral part of easyJet's operations, and this deal recognises their value."
At 1132 BST, shares in easyJet were up 2.06% at 585.4p.
